Dog Days of Summer

So as it is so ridiculously hot in Austin these days (105 degrees...so lame) my poor pooches are having to stay indoors a lot more than they would like. So i've been trying to pamper them a little more than usual! I got this fabulous book, Baking for your dog, last year as an attempt to try and start being more domestic.

Chloe loves having treats made for her! :)

This book features amazing recipes using season ingredients (such as pumpkin in fall...) Anyways I decided to share the recipe for Chloe and Maxwell's FAVE treats in the book. (i've adjusted the original recipe) but they seem to like them better now. They are super easy to make, and I promise your little pups will be super thankful! Let me know your comments! :)

Chloe & Maxwell's SuperTreats
(makes about 30-35 treats)

7 tbsp wholewheat flour
7 tbsp coarse rolled oats
2 tbsp oat bran
2 eggs
5 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
5 tbsp finely diced ham
6 tbsp water

*mixed all ingredients together w/water to make a smooth dough. Cover and let the dough rest for about 30 mins. (I always put mine in the fridge just to speed up the time a little bit)*

*Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet w/ parchment paper*

*On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 in thick, and cut into 1'' squares. Place these on the baking sheet and bake for about 25 mins, until they get slightly golden brown. Turn off the oven, and let the treats harden for another 30 mins-1.5 hrs.*

*Store the treats in a paper or linen bag (or airtight sealed container). The treats will keep for approx. 4 weeks*

Happy baking lovies,
xoxo
